ABOUT

STATEMENT

I explore the intersection of contemporary art, memory, and physical and mental well-being. My work examines historical and social narratives through oil paintings, while promoting self-care and emotional balance as tools for healing and self-awareness.

BIO

Angie del Carmen Rangel Peñaloza was born on November 7, 1994, in Barranquilla – Colombia.

After completing high school in 2012, Angie pursued a Master’s in Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Facultad de Bellas Artes.

In her quest to develop a unique artistic voice, Angie expanded her practice by participating in workshops that focused on sculpture, live model drawing, painting, photography, and engraving. Her work became particularly distinguished by her experimentation with intimate photography. She completed her degree as part of the Videns Group, which focuses on “Visual Studies of the Caribbean,” where she developed a project inspired by Walter Benjamin’s theory of jetztzeit (present time). This project led to her first exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, featuring photographs of the Caribbean.

In 2022, Angie obtained a degree in Academic Knowledge in Artistic Painting from the Escuela Distrital de Artes de Barranquilla, where she deepened her skills in oil painting. That same year, she relocated to Medellín, Colombia, to further investigate the life and work of Débora Arango. During this period, she also began an online marketing course with Universidad de los Andes and the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín, aiming to expand her knowledge of contemporary art and its circulation in the global art scene.

Angie’s practice continues to evolve as she combines technical exploration with conceptual depth, reflecting her ongoing dialogue with both the history of art and the socio – cultural context of the Caribbean memory and her roots.
